Our commitment to education

Newry Chamber Music is committed to education and has initiated and facilitated several projects over recent years. These include a series of workshops for thirty young string players from St. Peter’s Primary School, Cloughreagh culminating in a very special performance during one of our piano trio concerts.

Our highly successful Midsummer Festival provided participation opportunities for the local community, catering for all ages. Our first ever Baby and Toddler concert was a huge success, introducing the youngest members of our community to the joys of classical music. Older kids, teenagers and adults enjoyed our African drumming workshops and we brought together members of three local choirs to perform under the baton of one of Ireland's leading conductors, David Brophy.

We are dedicated to involving the local community in our venture and have provided debut platforms for young musicians and emerging ensembles and choirs from the region. We also provide masterclasses given by our visiting artists to up and coming young musicians from both Northern Ireland and the Republic, giving them a chance to work with world renowned artists such as the Brodsky Quartet and horn player Tom Redmond.

Our 2016 season included our popular Baby and Toddler concerts, performances in local residential homes for the elderly and workshops for local amateur string players.
