We are excited to announce our Midsummer Festival. We have three thrilling days full of concerts and workshops with something for everyone to enjoy! An epic evening of music exploring a multitude of human emotions and psychologies. Renowned actor Ciarán Hinds brings to life the story behind Caplet’s Conte fantastique, based on Poe’s Masque of the Red Death. After an interval Mary McCabe and David Quigley take to the stage for NI Opera’s production of Poulenc’s one act Opera La Voix Humane. Opera, Theatre and Chamber Music all under one roof in one concert!

 


Saturday 15 June

Baby Maestros
Warrenpoint Parish Centre, 11am

A concert for the under 4s and their grown ups ! Join Bop as she introduces your little ones to the joy of live music making, See the amazement in their little eyes as they see and listen to the majesty of the concert harp. With loads to sing along to this promises to be a colourful hour of joy and fun!

Djembe Drumming classes with Ronan McKee
Warrenpoint Parish Centre, 1pm and 2pm

Ronan Mc Kee is one of Ireland’s most energetic and enthusiastic musicians and educators. He has decades of first hand experience playing the Djembe and has travelled to Africa to study this versatile drumming style. Prepare to get with the beat for an hour of pure rhythmic vigour!


The Fews Ensemble
Warrenpoint Town Hall, 3.30pm

Hamilton Harty’s piano Quintet was written in 1904 and remained unperformed in this country until 2023 when the Fews Ensemble unearthed it and brought it to life. A stunningly romantic and nostalgic work which deserves to be heard far and wide. The immensely talented Brian Connor arranged three gorgeous folk songs from the north or Ireland for the Fews Ensemble during lockdown. The hauntingly beautiful Month of January sits side by side with My Lagan Love and is complimented by a fantastically original take on the Star of the County Down. Faure’s rarely heard La Bonne Chanson for strings, piano and Soprano completes this spell binding programme.

Declan McConaghy chats with star of stage and screen Ciarán Hinds with musical interludes from Joanne and David Quigley. Questions will be open to the floor.


Piano by Candlelight
The Church, Rostrevor 9pm

Unwind after a long week to the soothing sounds of Einaudi, Debussy and much more in this beautiful intimate piano recital by candlelight with the immensely talented Danny O'Neill. Perfect served with a nice glass of wine!

Our area has some of the most talented young artists on the island as demonstrated in the recent Northern Ireland Young Musician of the year competition. Join some of the top prizewinners for a beautiful Sunday morning coffee concert.



Zoe Conway and John McIntyre

With an exciting blend of eclectic fiddle and guitar music, Zoë Conway and John McIntyre bring to the stage sympathetic arrangements of traditional Irish music, compositions and songs, old and new. The husband and wife folk duo possess a rare facility to draw pieces into their repertoire from other genres such as classical, jazz and world music and express this material in way which not only displays the sheer range and knowledge of both instrumentalists but also exhibits the wonderful versatility of their instruments.




Close to you

Clanrye Suite at the Canal Court Hotel, 8:30pm

NCM is delighted to present this stunning production of Close to You. The concert is a celebration of both Frank Sinatra and his principal arranger Nelson Riddle. Some 70 years after it’s first release Close to You remains a beloved and timeless Sinatra album. Drawing on the traditions of both classical music and jazz, Riddle’s arrangements incorporated the famous Hollywood String Quartet who were the foremost string players of their time in LA. Featuring the Fews Ensemble, some of London’s leading jazz players and the sensational vocalist Matt Ford, widely regarded as the finest big band singer in the UK, who takes centre stage for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.
