Master of Melody
The Lieder and Chamber music of Franz Schubert

Experience the joy, charm, and depth of Franz Schubert’s music in a programme of some of his most beloved songs and instrumental chamber music. His Lieder from the tender and achingly beautiful A die Musik to the playful Heidenröslein, reveal the heart of a true Romantic and display his unsurpassed gift for melody.
The afternoon culminates in a performance of one of his most famous works The Trout Quintet. Composed when he was just 22 years old, it was commissioned by his friend Sylvester Paumgartner who requested both the slightly unconventional instrumentation and the inclusion of Schuberts earlier song ‘Die Forelle’ as a set of variations within the piece. This pillar of the chamber music repertoire overflows with wit, sparkle, and lyrical beauty.
